Robert Baschnagel III has managed to transform his company into a success by implementing new techniques and strategies that bring the classic traditions of metal working into a new realm of competition.
Robert Baschnagel III has been president of B&B Sheet Metal since 1997. He continues to build on an unsurpassed family business that dates back to 1901 when William Baschnagel established Baschnagel Roofing & Sheet Metal Company. In the 1970’s, Robert Baschnagel Jr. acquired the firm following his father’s death and continued to maintain the company’s work ethic. The Baschnagel name and reputation has since become synonymous with precision and quality workmanship.
At age twelve Mr. Baschnagel III began his vocation in the family business as a helper and was supervising landmark projects by the age of twenty-two.
“I have learned the business from the ground up and from the knowledge passed down to me from generations above.”
While the profits of the roofing sector of Baschnagel soared, the sheet metal department lagged and required a stronger focus. Bob Sr. chose to split Baschnagel Brothers and create two separate entities; the roofing sector remained the same and the sheet metal sector became B&B Sheet Metal, Inc. Mr. Baschnagel III was dedicated to turning the sheet metal business into a profit maximizing venture.
Robert Baschnagel III is also paving the way for significant technical advances. The patent pending online ordering system “U Price” will automate his entire line of custom fabricated materials into a simple ordering application.
“Our ordering system will simplify a complicated pricing procedure for our customers. The built in safeguards include predetermined sheet sizes and estimating tools that enable accurate pricing for job estimates. This system is login based so that distributors, contractors and home owners will receive custom price levels.”
His inventive sensibility began when he received his first patent for a gutter machine. This machine enabled him to mass produce tapered flange gutters and eventually turned his competition into his customers. He also created the “How to Solder DVD” in order to educate customers on the traditional secrets of metalworking and soldering techniques. He strongly believes that this will aid industry growth as a whole.
B&B began in Whitestone, NY with four employees in a 2500 SQ FT warehouse. Today, the company occupies three buildings with over 30,000 SQ FT of space and over 40 sheet metal workers. It is also the sole US Distributor of the German imported Americraft Gutter.
Robert Jr. and Robert Baschnagel III have merely begun their contribution to the promising sheet metal industry. By planting their innovative seeds today they expect to lay a path where infrastructure is in place for major advances and growth. |
